VisaNet supports sophisticated risk management services that protect issuers, acquirers, and merchants from losses due to fraud, theft or unauthorized use. These services include transaction risk scoring, innovative data encryption techniques and transaction alerts and notifications. Over the past five years, even as global transaction volume has increased dramatically, global fraud rates have remained near historic lows.
Real Time, Real Protection
Visa’s real-time risk scoring capabilities are the result of decades of experience monitoring transaction patterns and applying sophisticated risk management technologies. Services such as Visa Advanced Authorization enhance Visa’s ability to detect unusual spending patterns and flag possible fraud in real time. When a Visa card is swiped, Advanced Authorization provides a real-time rating of that transaction’s potential for fraud to the card issuer, including whether it was part of a reported data security compromise. The issuer can respond immediately to the merchant whether to accept or decline the transaction. The ability to analyze all VisaNet transactions in real time helps stop fraud at the checkout — before it takes place.
