Branching Out to Build a Career
Though his background was in financial services, Nathan always knew he wanted to branch out into other areas. “It was important to me to expand my skill set and work with people in all types of financial institutions throughout the world. I knew Visa was the place for me.”
He originally accepted a position with Visa in Credit, which led to a role as Director of Product Management Consulting. Nathan worked with smaller bank clients at first, then with Chase, Visa’s largest bank partner.
Today, Nathan works in analytics management, a role that he believes will offer continued opportunity. “At Visa, I feel like I can go anywhere from here, whether to other departments or even other countries. Management is supportive in helping me achieve my goals.”
One of his most interesting projects involved developing and delivering a ground-breaking benchmarking test. “This was a first in the industry, and I was able to work alongside different banks across the globe to identify customer needs and determine how Visa could help meet those needs.”
Nathan has also made the most of Visa’s generous benefits and perks, such as the public transportation matching benefit. “It’s really a wonderful program because it lets me use whatever means I prefer to get to work while being environmentally conscious.” He’s also participated in the AIDS Walk through Visa, raising $2,000. “Visa matched that 100 percent, turning the funds raised into $4,000. Visa also matches my donations to the Larkin Street Youth Shelter, which helps homeless youth in San Francisco.”
Like most of Visa’s employees, Nathan appreciates that every day brings a new challenge. “No single day is the same, and the possibilities are endless. Visa is really open to new ideas, too, as long as you have a strong business case to back it up.”
