About the athlete

Alex was encouraged by his family to start swimming at 5 years old. He comes from a long line of swimmers. His aunt and sister are both swimmers, and his grandmother was the president of the local swim club.

Alex immediately fell in love with the sport and by the age of 7 he had already begun swimming competitively. The turning point in his career was the Olympic Games London 2012, where watching the Olympic swimmers inspired him to become a champion. Since then, he has been training twice a day to be the best in the world.

Alex was diagnosed with ocular albinism, a condition that significantly impairs vision by reducing pigmentation in the retina. Given his condition, at age 14, he transitioned to para sports and has never regretted the decision. In his international career, Alex has won four silver medals and three bronze medals at the European championships and one gold medal, three silver medals, and two bronze medals at the world championships. Moreover, at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, he took home a silver and a bronze medal.
