Visa Direct product roadmap: building reach, speed, and reliability for the future of money movement

02/05/2026

At London’s Visa Direct Day we shared the Visa Direct Product Roadmap with attendees. It highlighted the capabilities that exist today, the vision for tomorrow, and how Visa Direct is working to make money movement simple, secure, and fast. Here are some key takeaways.

The Visa Direct vision

Visa Direct brings together a suite of capabilities developed and acquired over 60 years of innovation, combining proprietary assets, partnerships, and deep payments expertise. At its core, Visa Direct enables:

  • Collecting or receiving funds
  • Holding funds in virtual bank accounts or wallets in multiple currencies
  • Converting funds between currencies
  • Sending money to approximately 12 billion endpoints across 195+ countries and territories

Network of networks

The strength of Visa Direct lies in its network:¹ the global money movement platform that enables financial institutions, fintechs, businesses, and governments to send, receive, and manage money securely across 195+ countries and territories, and 150+ currencies. The goal is to get funds to their destination as close to real-time as possible, or at least via the fastest available route.

Key network pillars include:

  • Reach – Expanding global endpoints and connectivity
  • Speed – Delivering near real-time transfers where possible
  • Reliability – Ensuring funds arrive at the right place, with full compliance and visibility
  • Experience – Making it easier for clients and end-users to transact

Making money movement made as easy as consumer payments

A consumer card payment just works: it’s accepted, it’s instant, it’s tracked. But money movement outside of consumer payments such as cross-border remittances, government disbursements, or small business supplier payments can be slow and opaque. That’s what Visa Direct is aiming to change.

Product integration and client flexibility

An audience Q&A revealed a key insight into Visa Direct’s approach: while a single API is often discussed, real-world client needs vary. Different clients want to use these capabilities in different ways. They want to consume them simply and in a single spot from Visa, but maybe not in a single API. Visa’s mission is to meet its clients where they are.

Looking Ahead

The Visa Direct roadmap is more than a list of features. It’s a strategic commitment to improving both domestic and cross-border money movement. The focus is on:

  • Operational simplicity for clients
  • A consistent service across capabilities
  • Continuous innovation to close the gap between consumer and business payment experiences

Visa Direct’s product roadmap is about making global money movement intuitive, reliable, and fast. By unifying reach, speed, reliability, and experience, and giving clients flexibility in how they integrate, the product roadmap puts Visa Direct firmly on the path to being a key partner in the future of global money movement.
